Launched in 1958, the XK150 S represents the ultimate development of Jaguar’s legendary line of XK sports cars. In its original 3.4-litre form, the “S” model yielded significant performance dividends, with three SU carburetors, straight-port intake manifolds, and upgraded camshafts contributing 60 hp over the standard XK150. Equipped with Le Mans-proven Dunlop disc brakes, these Jaguars were among the fastest and most comfortable GT cars of the late 1950s. The most sporting version was the Roadster, of which only 888 were built.
According to the accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, this XK150 S was completed on September 9, 1958, and dispatched to Jaguar Cars New York that October. Factory records confirm that the Roadster was originally finished in the striking black over red color scheme seen today, and that it retains its matching-numbers engine. Remarkably, this Jaguar XK150 S 3.4-Litre Roadster remained in single family ownership from 1959 until earlier this year, when the consignor acquired it. Under the ownership of Thomas Whelan, the Roadster spent its earliest years in New Mexico and Arizona before being placed in storage in the mid-1960s. Later recommissioned and enjoyed as a weekend driver, the Jaguar was eventually inherited by Mr. Whelan’s son William, who had Don Bongiorno of Colorado, restore it. The Jaguar has seen little use over the past 15 years and remains in presentable driver-quality condition today, making it an ideal choice for use on rallies or as a casual show entry.
